Marriage...

Went to see fireworks last nite. it was really beautiful. All the sparkling rains are worth the squeeze & sweat. I feel like the whole Singapore was there. It’s always like that whenever there is firework displays. People were armed with cameras, video-cams, handphones, watching patiently into the night sky, awaiting the first shot of sparkles.

But why do we get so fascinated over a few mins of fireworks? After all, it is only a few mins of shimmering display and yet people waited for hours to get a glimpse. Perhaps is its short life that makes people cherish its moment. Fireworks won’t be such a catch anymore if we have it everyday.

Sometimes we tend to take for granted the things we always have with us and go in search for something that is far-fetched or elusive.

Much like marriages.

I’ve been observing my brother & my sister-in-law for a few months since they got married and heard their side of the story. Living together has seemed to magnify each other’s weakness & the good they used to see in each other seem to diminish with time. The no. of times they share honeyed words and the no. of gifts they receive from each other also reduced after their marriage. Perhaps those are no longer a priority now as compared to during their courtship. They have more practical issues on hand now – house loan, insurance, furniture, renovation …

Is this really the case when one got married?

To me, marriage means sharing your life together & your hearts beat as one. Worries should be halved, and happiness doubled. Yet many times the opposite applies ie Worries doubled and happiness halved.

They say marriage requires understanding, acceptance and trust but can these elements alone make a marriage blissful?

I wonder.
